Inductive Improv

421 8th Avenue New York, NY 10001

Comedy, experimentation, and reasoning with the unreasonable.

What?

Inductive is a consolidated and scientific approach to comedy, founded by veteran teacher, performer, and actor Xavier Padin…It is the live action experiment of long-form improvisation [x] individual personal experiences [^] NYC theatrical stage performance.

Inductive?
Think “induction,” which has scientific, psychological, cinematic and theatrical implications. It is a process of understanding more about the world through observation.

Improv (long-form)?
Is defined as the individual AND the group using available resources to:
          a) behave truthfully under imaginary circumstances.
          b) comedically “script” spontaneous content.
          c) honor the relationship with the audience.

YESimprov is a team sport. AND each student is running their own race in the improv marathon – so the inductive approach focuses on “you” the individual and “you,” the group, with aspirations for “you” the people.

Why?

benefit 1

Life is iterative. Being a good improviser helps unlock profound new versions of your own life.

benefit 2

Life is improvised and…”a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.” – Walpole

benefit 3

Community is king and through a team unit, we can find a solution to just about any problem.

benefit 4

Inductive thinking leads to specific conclusions. Observation, play, and forecasting can be a bit divine. We call it: Give, Get, Go.

How?

“People are drawn to Xavier because of his incredibly positive energy. He laughs more than most people you know, he smiles more than most people you know, he pays more complements than most people you know – this positive vibe is infectious and makes him a person that you want to be around.”

“Xavier is naturally gifted at helping you bring out talents and abilities that you didn’t even know you had. He’s one of those teachers who you don’t even consciously realize is teaching you anything; it just kind of happens and it’s only afterwards that you realize, “Hey, I learned something new and did something I’ve never done before.”
